The principle of equal treatment between women and men is one of the fundamental principles of gender equality. This means that women and men should have the same opportunities and access to resources, goods, and services in society.
In this regard, the proposed legislative amendments have the following main objectives:
- Elimination of gender discrimination by ensuring there are no differences in treatment between men and women when accessing goods and services;
- Equal access for women and men by ensuring they will benefit from the same conditions and prices for products and services available on the market.
To implement these measures, which transpose the European Council Directive 2004/113 into national legislation, several laws are to be amended, including Law no. 105/2003 on consumer protection, Law no. 5/2006 on ensuring equal opportunities between women and men, and Law no. 121/2012 on ensuring equality. These actions will contribute to the fulfillment of the country's commitment to European integration and long-term strategic development by integrating the principle of equal treatment between women and men into all aspects of economic and social life.
"The draft law approved today by the Government represents a significant step towards ensuring equal opportunities for women and men, contributing to the elimination of discrimination and improving equal access to goods and services," emphasized Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu.
