Support programs in the labor market for women in Moldova yield unprecedented results

In 2023, the lowest number of inactive women in the labor market was recorded (from 715,700 in 2019 to 652,700 in 2023). The employment and participation rates of women with disabilities are the highest in the last five years.

This achievement was made possible by several employment support programs promoted by the National Agency for Employment (ANOFM). ANOFM provides assistance to individuals seeking to enter the workforce through training, counseling, and help with job search and applications.

In 2023, there were also the most women employed in the labor market in the last five years. In 2023, 23,100 more women were working in the labor market than in 2022, and 16,700 more than in 2019.

“The Government's programs to support parents, especially women, in balancing professional life with family life are beginning to yield results. I am pleased to note that the results for 2023 are significantly better than in previous periods, and I hope that we will achieve even better results in 2024. At the Ministry, we will continue to develop policies to support and encourage women to advance their professional careers while also having the opportunity to be with their families here at home in Moldova,” said Alexei Buzu, Minister of Labor and Social Protection.

The Government has created several measures to support and encourage women to harmoniously balance their professional and personal lives:

– Introduction and extension of paternity leave;

– More options for taking parental leave;

– Expansion of childcare services and renovation of kindergartens;

– Greater flexibility in work organization for pregnant women, those who have recently given birth, and breastfeeding mothers;

– Provision of subsidies by ANOFM for the development of local businesses and the creation of new jobs in the community;

– Other family support measures.

Additionally, in 2023, the employment rate of women increased more rapidly compared to that of men, highlighting a reduction in gender inequalities concerning employment.
