The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the National Agency for Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence are organizing regional workshops to strengthen the efforts of specialists in protecting victims of domestic violence

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, in partnership with the National Agency for Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, conducted regional workshops from October 8 to 15, 2024, aimed at strengthening the efforts of specialists in the field of domestic violence and child protection.

These workshops respond to recent legislative changes, including the update of Law no. 45/2007. Renamed the "Law on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence," it reflects the need for a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach, requiring collaboration among all specialists involved to provide effective support and protection to victims.

Throughout the workshops, emphasis was placed on the essential role of specialists in domestic violence and child protection, highlighting the importance of coordinating interinstitutional activities. The main objective is to ensure a prompt and effective victim-centered response, particularly for the mother-child pair, who are often the most affected in cases of domestic violence.

An effective response to domestic violence requires more than a single intervention – it necessitates a joint effort, with rapid and tailored interventions for each case, to protect and support victims.

The workshops were organized with the support of development partners, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), ensuring the participation of over 60 specialists from Territorial Social Assistance Agencies and Territorial Social Assistance Structures.

The main goal is to strengthen the capacity of institutions to collaborate in preventing and combating domestic violence, as well as to provide comprehensive support to its victims.
