The interministerial working group for ensuring alignment with the Istanbul Convention has been established

On February 6, 2017, the Republic of Moldova signed the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).

This step involves aligning national legislation with the provisions of the aforementioned treaty. In this regard, the Report on the Compatibility Analysis of National Legislation with the Provisions of the Istanbul Convention was prepared and presented at the extended meeting of the Interministerial Coordination Council on Preventing and Combating Domestic Violence on April 18, 2019. This meeting was organized by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Social Protection in partnership with the Women's Law Center and with the support of UN Women Moldova.

Subsequently, by Order No. 776 of June 27, 2019, of the Minister of Health, Labor, and Social Protection, an interministerial working group was established to draft a bill amending normative acts to ensure alignment with the Istanbul Convention. This group includes representatives from relevant ministries, institutions responsible for preventing and combating domestic violence, and civil society.
