The event gathered representatives of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, UN agencies, diplomatic missions, and civil society organizations working in this field.
The concept of the National Agency for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence was developed based on the provisions of the Istanbul Convention, which has been in force in the Republic of Moldova since May 1, 2022.
According to the concept, the agency will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of national programs and will provide support to the Government in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating policies for preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. It will also facilitate cooperation and dialogue with civil society and ensure reporting on the application of the Istanbul Convention at the national level.
Felicia Bechtoldt, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, stated: "The Istanbul Convention places special emphasis on the interinstitutional mechanism for preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. Through the initiative to create the National Agency for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, we believe it will add significant value to the interinstitutional mechanism in this field, applied in the Republic of Moldova."
It is noted that the finalization of the concept will be followed by the submission of the draft law for the creation of the National Agency for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
