The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection announces the approval by the Government of the draft Regulation for the organization and functioning of the National Coordinating Council in the Field of Prevention and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence.
This project, developed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, aims to strengthen the institutional mechanism for the prevention and combatting of violence against women and domestic violence. The establishment of the Council seeks to coordinate intersectoral activities and promote effective collaboration between public authorities and non-profit organizations to better respond to the needs of violence victims.
"The creation of this Council will ensure an essential response in providing an effective and coordinated approach to violence against women and domestic violence, contributing to the protection and support of victims and improving collaboration between various institutions and organizations involved," said Alexei Buzu, Minister of Labour and Social Protection.
The Government’s decision ensures alignment of national legislation with the standards of the Council of Europe’s Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention), which has been in force in the Republic of Moldova since May 2022. The Council will operate as a monitoring and coordination mechanism for the implementation of policies on preventing and combatting violence, in accordance with Moldova’s international commitments.
The Council will include representatives from public authorities and institutions, non-profit organizations, international organizations, and the academic community. The Council’s President will be the Director General of the National Agency for the Prevention and Combating of Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, while the Vice President role will be held by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. Technical and organizational activities will be managed by the Agency.
Victims of violence can receive support and assistance through the Women's Helpline Service at 0 8008 8008. The service is funded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
