Every year, from November 25 to December 10, the international campaign "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence" takes place. During this period, events are organized worldwide to raise public awareness about violence against women, discrimination, and other gender-based inequalities.
This year, the global campaign focuses on the inequality and discrimination faced by women in the workplace. This phenomenon also exists in the Republic of Moldova, representing a gender inequality. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS) for 2020, the average salary for women in Moldova is 14.4% lower than that of men. Additionally, various forms of harassment, discrimination, and violence encountered by women in the labor market have been reported. In this context, we highlight the results of the study "How to Prevent and Reduce Sexual Harassment in the Workplace," conducted by the Partnership for Development Center in collaboration with the Women’s Law Center as part of the project "Joint Initiative for Equal Opportunities."
In this context, on December 1, 2021, Radio Moldova Tineret, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration, organized the public debate "Employment Without Discrimination." During the debate, the sources of gender inequality were analyzed, and the Istanbul Convention was discussed, including what the ratification of this document by Moldova offers to its citizens. The discussion also addressed ways to prevent and eliminate discrimination against women in the workplace and other areas.
