On November 8, 2022, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, in partnership with the Council of Europe Office in Chișinău, held a hybrid seminar titled The Digital Dimension of Violence Against Women. The event aimed to increase the understanding among public authorities, civil society, and the private sector of the digital dimension of violence against women—namely, violence occurring online or facilitated by information technologies.
The seminar served as a relevant platform for presenting GREVIO’s (Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence of the Council of Europe, responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Istanbul Convention by its signatories) General Recommendation No. 1, which outlines specific actions aimed at combating violence against women online or through technology.
Among the participants were William Massolin, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chișinău; Corina Ajder, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection; Daniela Misail-Nichitin, State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs; and experts from the Council of Europe, among others.
Present at the event, Corina Ajder, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, noted: "In recent years, there has been increasing concern about how the internet has become a space where various forms of aggression manifest, especially toward women and girls, including: online harassment and stalking, exposure of personal information, non-consensual sharing of intimate images or videos, public humiliation, threats based on religion or sexual identity, identity theft, exploitation of children's images, and child pornography, among others. In this context, I appreciate the support of the Council of Europe in combating these phenomena and express my deep gratitude for the successful collaboration, effort, and work achieved so far."
The event was organized within the framework of the project Supporting the Implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the Republic of Moldova, in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova and as part of the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2021–2024.
