The main topics discussed were the need to combat stereotypes and reduce gender inequalities, the role of civil society organizations in ensuring inclusive policies, the necessity of redistributing caregiving responsibilities, which often fall on women, as well as the importance of strategic investments for achieving gender equality.
"In recent years, our country has made significant progress in promoting workplace equity, protecting vulnerable groups, and empowering women. One notable success is the full transposition of the Directive on ensuring equal access to goods and services for women and men. Now, our priority is implementing this directive, adhering to the principle of equal treatment in all areas, including social security and self-employment," stated Felicia Bechtoldt.
Moreover, the Government is intensifying efforts to combat gender-based violence by expanding services for victims of domestic violence, including counseling, shelter, and legal assistance. Additionally, a priority is developing integrated services for victims of violence, providing comprehensive support to help them rebuild their lives. These initiatives aim to build a more inclusive society where women are empowered, protected, and provided with the necessary tools to succeed.
Also, during the event, Corina Ajder, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, moderated a panel on women's empowerment and the Government's efforts to expand access to essential services for families. As part of the "European Village" program, the Government funded the creation of over 460 childcare spots in nurseries across the country, allocating 20 million lei this year and 10 million lei last year for expanding these services.
The "Enhancing Women's Leadership for Peaceful and Resilient Societies" program is implemented by UN Women with financial support from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia.
