The network includes 11 assistance units, located throughout the country within the emergency departments of hospitals. Their purpose is to offer immediate assistance to victims of gender-based violence in a confidential environment, to prevent re-victimization, and to ensure access to medical, forensic, psychosocial, and legal services all in one place.
The opening event was attended by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, who praised this initiative and reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection to prevent and combat violence against women and girls.
"Through such initiatives, we aim to support frontline specialists, provide them with more tools, and strengthen their capacities. This year, we will establish the National Agency for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, which will coordinate and support the implementation of policies and programs aimed at reducing gender-based violence. Additionally, together with several partners, we are working on finalizing an investment plan for local services in the field of violence prevention and combating," stated Minister Alexei Buzu.
The assistance network for victims of gender-based violence was created under the aegis of the Ministry of Health, with the support of the UN Population Fund.
