The working group established for the ratification and implementation of the International Labour Organization's Convention on Violence and Harassment in the World of Work No. 190 of 2019 met today for a new session to discuss the first version of the draft law for amending certain normative acts, necessary for transposing the provisions of the Convention into national legislation.
Currently, labor legislation in Moldova establishes only a few general procedures for protection against violence and harassment in the workplace, and their application is limited and does not ensure effective protection of individuals against violence and harassment at work.
Convention No. 190 provides a clear and comprehensive intervention framework to protect victims of violence and harassment in the world of work through measures such as paid leave, flexible work arrangements, and temporary protection against dismissal, regardless of their contractual status.
The process of adjusting national legislation regarding the prevention of violence and harassment in the workplace to align with the provisions of ILO Convention 190 was initiated in April 2023. The working group created for this purpose includes representatives from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, the International Labour Organization, social partners, civil society, and other public authorities and institutions responsible for preventing and combating violence and harassment.
