The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection participated on November 25—International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls—in the launch event organized in Căușeni.
During this event, the topic of intersectoral cooperation mechanisms in cases of domestic violence and multidisciplinary teams was discussed. The role of the involved actors and their collaboration in eliminating violence against girls and women was emphasized.
Preventing and combating violence against women and children is a pressing issue in the Republic of Moldova and one of the Government's priorities, and consequently, that of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. In this regard, a key role is played by the entry into force, as of May 1, 2022, of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. Currently, the ministry is developing a roadmap for implementing its provisions.
The launch event was also attended by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Felicia Bechtoldt: “Violence against girls and women cannot be tolerated, and we are responsible for ensuring that this phenomenon disappears from our homes and from our society. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, acting as the national coordinator in this area, considers it important for all actors to unite their efforts to raise awareness and inform about the adverse consequences of this phenomenon, to support and encourage women victims to report cases of violence to specialized services, and to begin a peaceful life filled with dignity.” Together we are united against violence!
Together we can change destinies!
Note: In the Republic of Moldova, this campaign has been organized for 19 consecutive years by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, local authorities, international organizations, and civil society. The color of the campaign is orange, symbolizing a bright future for every woman and girl.
