The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection supports the global initiative to raise awareness about sexual violence, "Denim Day”

Employees of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, led by Minister Alexei Buzu, join the "Denim Day" campaign, marked annually on the last Wednesday of April, in solidarity with victims of sexual violence. Violence against girls and women is unacceptable and represents a violation of human rights, stemming from gender inequality, discriminatory social norms, and societal stereotypes.

As an authority promoting policies to prevent and combat domestic violence and violence against women, we are firmly committed to fighting for women's rights to live safely, be respected, and have the opportunity to develop fully, free from fear and violence.

In this regard, the ministry has taken several measures to develop services for victims of violence against women and sexual violence, especially in rural areas, and to strengthen the multidisciplinary response. The ministry is also in the process of implementing various actions to develop programs and services aimed at reducing violent behavior among family offenders and sexual offenders, as well as enhancing prevention of recidivism. Additionally, training and education actions for children and young people are planned to ensure the prevention of violence and the formation of an inclusive society with non-violent values. More information can be found here.

“We are aware that we need to do more for the victims of violence, to have stronger protection mechanisms to prevent and intervene more quickly in cases of violence and sexual abuse. At the same time, we share a common responsibility, along with public authorities, civil society, international organizations, the media, and all citizens, to change perceptions and attitudes to prevent tragic cases like that of Ana-Maria,” said Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu.

Victims of domestic violence and sexual violence can receive assistance by contacting a social worker or community police officer, as well as the following free hotline numbers:

– Women and Girls' Trust Line 0 8008 8008 managed by C.I. "La Strada" – can be called free of charge in the Republic of Moldova from any landline or mobile network. Through the Trust Line, victims can receive primary psychological counseling, information about their rights and available support services, legal primary assistance, mediation services, and referrals to specialized assistance services (shelters, psychological counseling, psychotherapy, medical assistance, etc.).
