On July 24, 2019, at the meeting of the Commission for Human Rights and Interethnic Relations, various organizations, activists, and institutions working in this field participated. Together, we tried to address several key topics over a two-hour session.
Members of the National Coalition spoke on the issue of gender-based violence, emphasizing that, two years after signing the Istanbul Convention, the Republic of Moldova should aim to ratify this document soon. Another topic discussed was the need for continued funding for the Women's Trust Hotline 0 8008 8008—a crucial support tool for victims (also included in the Istanbul Convention) to ensure its effective operation.
We also addressed other aspects related to sexual violence, online sexual harassment, legislative proposals to align national laws with the Istanbul Convention, the effectiveness of emergency restraining orders, and collaboration between authorities and civil society. We plan to hold a separate meeting with the Commission for Human Rights and Interethnic Relations to discuss our proposals in greater detail. A photo gallery of the meeting is available here.
