Presentation of the Study on the Compatibility of National Legislation with GREVIO Recommendation No. 1 Regarding the Digital Dimension of Violence Against Women and Girls at the Regular Meeting of the Interministerial Coordinating Council for the Prevention and Combat of Domestic Violence

Violence against women committed in the digital sphere is an increasingly widespread global issue with serious consequences. According to GREVIO, this type of violence is amplified by the multitude of perpetrators, the wide range of actions, and the almost permanent nature of the dissemination of illegal content. Perpetrators use technological devices, smartphones, recording equipment, GPS systems, or even internet-connected home technology for stalking, harassment, surveillance, and control of victims.

The Interministerial Coordinating Council for the Prevention and Combat of Domestic Violence met in a regular session on April 21 of this year to discuss the compatibility of national legislation with General Recommendation No. 1 of the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) regarding the digital dimension of violence against women and girls.

Simultaneously, the annual activity report of the Monitoring and Analysis Commission on domestic violence cases resulting in death or serious bodily harm to the victim was heard, presented by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Women’s Law Center. According to the report, out of the 86 cases analyzed during 2022, in 45 cases the abuser was male and the victim was female, with 40 cases resulting in the victims’ deaths due to violent actions, of which 24 victims were women.
