The event was attended by Felicia Bechtoldt, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection; Marius Ciprian Toth, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chișinău; Laura Albu, GREVIO expert from Romania; representatives of central public authorities, relevant public institutions, national non-governmental organizations, and international organizations who became familiar with the main conclusions and recommendations of the GREVIO experts.
The report assesses the level of implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the Republic of Moldova. It also proposes a series of recommendations focused on the four pillars of the treaty: prevention, protection, prosecution, and integrated policies. Regarding the social sector, GREVIO experts urge the state to focus efforts on developing services and shelters for victims of violence against women and sexual violence in rural areas, creating a disaggregated data system that allows for a clear picture of the victim and perpetrator profiles, the type of violence, geographical location, and cases of repeated violence, etc.
“We were pleased to learn that GREVIO welcomes the Government's efforts to prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence. Currently, there is an emphasis on providing an effective multidisciplinary response to cases of domestic violence, centered on the victim. To achieve real progress and have a sustainable impact, the involvement and accountability of all central and local public authorities, civil society, the media, the private sector, and every community are necessary,” stated Felicia Bechtoldt, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
The results of the report will serve as methodological benchmarks for improving legislation, public policies, and multidisciplinary approaches in preventing and combating violence against women and girls, as well as the interventions of all professionals in reported cases.
