The role and responsibilities of the National Agency for Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence were discussed at the meeting of the Interministerial Coordinating Council for the Prevention and Combat of Domestic Violence

The concept of the National Agency for Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, along with its role and responsibilities, was discussed at the regular meeting of the extended platform of the Interministerial Coordinating Council for the Prevention and Combat of Domestic Violence.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection in partnership with the Women’s Law Center and UN Women Moldova, and it brought together over 70 representatives from central and local public authorities, civil society, external partners, and donors.

During the meeting, participants discussed the concept and operational mechanism of the new entity and provided recommendations that will be taken into account in developing the regulatory framework for its activities.

Felicia Bechtoldt, State Secretary and Chair of the Interministerial Coordinating Council for the Prevention and Combat of Domestic Violence, stated: “This agency is not just an institution; it is an expression of our commitment to the fundamental rights of women to live safely, to be respected, and to have the opportunity to develop fully, without fear and without violence. Through it, we will work together with all anti-violence actors, strengthen collaboration with non-commercial organizations and international partners to develop prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation programs.”

The National Agency for Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence is created to enhance interaction capabilities at both central and local levels and to improve international cooperation from the perspective of promoting victim-centered policies.

The institution will operate as a central administrative authority under the Government of the Republic of Moldova and will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of national programs. It will assist the Government in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating policies for preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. Additionally, it will facilitate cooperation and dialogue with civil society and report on the implementation of the Istanbul Convention at the national level.
