During the Teleradio Moldova program "Public Space," Tatiana Fișer from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection was joined by Lilia Pascal, head of the Department for Gender Equality Policy Assurance. The main topic of discussion was the prevention and combat of violence against women and girls and domestic violence in the context of the ongoing campaign with the same name.
Violence against girls and women is a form of discrimination and a violation of fundamental human rights. It is both a cause and a consequence of the inequalities between women and men that have been perpetuated over time. Violence against women occurs everywhere: at home, in public, in any society and country, regardless of the economic and social context.
Domestic violence is a complex phenomenon and refers to acts of physical, sexual, psychological, or economic violence that occur within the family or household or between former or current spouses or partners, regardless of whether the perpetrator shares or has shared the same residence with the victim.
"At the national level, we have legislation and a mechanism for addressing cases of domestic violence. We have specialized services for both victims and perpetrators. We have various authorities with competencies in this area that carry out activities to inform the population. As a result of all these measures, women are becoming more informed; they are aware of the consequences and the elements constitutive of domestic violence, and the cases reported to the police are increasing."
The government is preparing to coordinate joint efforts with civil society and local partners to develop a new public policy document. This will help us improve our approaches and even practical elements that can respond to the phenomenon of violence.
